Section Overview
Paul has instructed Timothy to continue in the apostolic faith and not to turn aside from it in the face of suffering and persecution. Timothy must instead continue to trust in the Word of God because of the trustworthiness of those who taught the word to him—Lois and Eunice. Timothy’s confidence does not, however, depend on the character of Lois and Eunice alone. His confidence must stand finally on the nature and character of Scripture itself. Paul explains what Scripture is, what Scripture does, and what Scripture produces.

Response
We must beware any preacher or teacher who attempts to drive a wedge between the Bible and what God is doing in the world. We must beware any preacher who would drive a wedge between the Bible and what God is doing in us. If we have God’s Word, we have everything we need for life and godliness. We have everything we need to be faithful and fruitful in the gospel. For this Word is God’s Word, not man’s.
