Though Catholic, Hartin clearly affirms that a Christian is saved by faith in Christ and that works are an evidence of such saving faith. Greek is transliterated in the volume. The author spends considerable space discussing rhetorical features in the letter.
McCartney, Dan G. James. BECNT. Grand Rapids, MI: Baker Academic, 2009.
Careful, scholarly, and insightful discussion of the Greek text, though transliterations of Greek words are also provided.
Moo, Douglas J. The Letter of James. PNTC. Grand Rapids, MI: Eerdmans, 2000.
For the educated pastor not wanting a detailed interaction with the Greek text, Moo’s volume is first on the list. Greek is transliterated, and Moo’s observations are clear and insightful.
