Revelation 11:15–19
15 11:15Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever.” 16 11:16And the twenty-four elders who sit on their thrones before God fell on their faces and worshiped God, 17 11:17saying,
“We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty,
who is and who was,
for you have taken your great power
and begun to reign.
18 11:18The nations raged,
but your wrath came,
and the time for the dead to be judged,
and for rewarding your servants, the prophets and saints,
and those who fear your name,
both small and great,
and for destroying the destroyers of the earth.”
19 11:19Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant was seen within his temple. There were flashes of lightning, rumblings,1 peals of thunder, an earthquake, and heavy hail.

Section Overview
With the sounding of the seventh trumpet, history comes to an end. The kingdom now belongs to the Lord and his Christ forever (Rev. 11:15). Heaven pulsates with joy as the elders fall on their faces and worship (v. 16), giving thanks because the everlasting God has begun his reign (v. 17). The reign of the Christ means the wicked are judged and the righteous rewarded (v. 18); the judgment of the wicked explains why this is the third woe. God’s temple in heaven is opened and the ark of his covenant is seen, representing full and final access to God (v. 19), but there is also a thunderous storm of judgment for those who have refused his rule.

Response
History won’t last forever; evil won’t triumph. Good will triumph, and God and Christ will reign forever. They will take the reins of history into their hands and dispense justice to every person, rewarding the righteous and punishing the wicked. Things are askew now, and evil often profits the wicked. Believers are tempted to despair and discouragement, but we should be full of optimism and hope, for the triumph of evil is short-lived. The end is coming! The perfect world we long for, the world where Christ reigns, will become a reality.
