Revelation 14:1–5
14 14:1Then I looked, and behold, on Mount Zion stood the Lamb, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads. 2 14:2And I heard a voice from heaven like the roar of many waters and like the sound of loud thunder. The voice I heard was like the sound of harpists playing on their harps, 3 14:3and they were singing a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and before the elders. No one could learn that song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. 4 14:4It is these who have not defiled themselves with women, for they are virgins. It is these who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These have been redeemed from mankind as firstfruits for God and the Lamb, 5 14:5and in their mouth no lie was found, for they are blameless.
Section Overview
The scene shifts from earth to heaven, from the reign of the two beasts on earth to the reign of the Father and the Lamb in heaven. In the heavenly Mount Zion described in Revelation 14:1, we see the 144,000 with the names of the Lamb and the Father on their foreheads, in contrast to those in 13:16–18 who had the mark of the beast on their heads and hands. The 144,000 redeemed believers are singing a song of praise to God for their redemption and salvation (14:2–3). They belong on the heavenly Mount Zion, for they did not defile themselves by worshiping false gods but followed the Lamb unswervingly (v. 4). They did not subscribe to the lie of false worship and never gave their allegiance to the beast. Because they worshiped the Lamb and the Father, they are blameless (v. 5).

Response
We are promised indescribable joy in heaven, a joy we can anticipate now when listening to music that transports us. The sufferings of the present time, as Paul says (Rom. 8:18), cannot compare to the glory we shall experience in eternity. And that glory, that splendor, spills over with joy, with a new song that will never get old. We will sing the song of our redemption forever. And we will be on the heavenly Mount Zion if we have not given ourselves to spiritual prostitution, if we have listened to and followed the Lamb who is our Good Shepherd, if we have not listened to the lie that claims other gods can satisfy us.
