As the final Prophetic Book of the OT ends, the Lord shows us the simplicity of his requirements as we await the day of his appearing. God promises that he will send a prophet to prepare his people for that coming day. As new covenant believers, we have the benefit of seeing the fulfillment of this short passage in the work of John the Baptist, who prepared the way for Jesus. As we await the second coming of Christ, we continually look back to Jesus, our greater Moses, through whom God finally and ultimately spoke his will, and we keep ourselves ready for that great and final day.
