CHAPTER 2

¹And these are the people of the province who came up from the captivity of the exiles whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylonia had exiled to Babylonia, and they returned to Jerusalem and to Judah, each to his town, ²who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispar, Bigvai, Rehun, Baanah. The tally of the men of the people of Israel: ³the sons of Parosh, two thousand one hundred seventy-two; ⁴the sons of Shephatiah, three hundred seventy-two; ⁵the sons of Arah, seven hundred seventy-five; ⁶the sons of Pahath-Moab, the sons of Jeshua, Joab, two thousand eight hundred twelve; ⁷the sons of Elam, one thousand two hundred fifty-four; ⁸the sons of Zattu, nine hundred forty-five; ⁹the sons of Zaccai, seven hundred sixty; ¹⁰the sons of Bani, six hundred forty-two; ¹¹the sons of Bebai, six hundred twenty-three; ¹²the sons of Azgad, one thousand two hundred twenty-two; ¹³the sons of Adonikam, six hundred sixty-six; ¹⁴the sons of Bigvai, two-thousand fifty-six; ¹⁵the sons of Adin, four hundred fifty-four; ¹⁶the sons of Ater of Hezekiah, ninety-eight; ¹⁷the sons of Bezai, three hundred twenty-three; ¹⁸the sons of Jorah, one hundred twelve; ¹⁹the sons of Hashun, two hundred twenty-three; ²⁰the sons of Gibbar, ninety-five; ²¹the sons of Bethlehem, one hundred twenty-three; ²²the men of Netophah, fifty-six; ²³the men of Anathoth, one hundred twenty-eight; ²⁴the sons of Azmaveth, forty-two; ²⁵the sons of Kiriath-Jearim, Chephirah, and Beeroth, seven hundred forty-three; ²⁶the sons of Ramah and Geba, six hundred twenty-one; ²⁷the men of Michmas, one hundred twenty-two; ²⁸the men of Bethel and Ai, two hundred twenty-three; ²⁹the sons of Nebo, fifty-two; ³⁰the sons of Magbish, one hundred fifty-six; ³¹the sons of the other Elam, one thousand two hundred fifty-four; ³²the sons of Harim, three hundred twenty, ³³the sons of Lod, Hadid, and Ono, seven hundred twenty-five; ³⁴the sons of Jericho, three hundred forty-five; ³⁵the sons of Senaah, three thousand six hundred thirty; ³⁶the priests, sons of Jedaiah of the house of Jeshua, nine hundred seventy-three; ³⁷the sons of Omer, one thousand fifty-two; ³⁸the sons of Pashhur, one thousand two hundred forty-seven; ³⁹the sons of Harim, one thousand seventeen; ⁴⁰the Levites, sons of Jeshua and Kadmiel, the sons of Hodaviah, seventy-four; ⁴¹the choristers, sons of Asaph, one hundred twenty-eight; ⁴²the sons of the gatekeepers, sons of Shallum, sons of Ater, sons of Talmon, sons of Akkub, sons of Hatita, sons of Shobai, all were one hundred thirty-nine; ⁴³the Temple laborers, sons of Ziha, sons of Hasupha, sons of Tabbaoth, ⁴⁴sons of Keros, sons of Siaha, sons of Padon, ⁴⁵sons of Lebanah, sons of Hagabah, sons of Akkub, ⁴⁶sons of Hagab, sons of Shamlai, sons of Hanan; ⁴⁷sons of Giddel, sons of Gahar, sons of Reaiah; ⁴⁸sons of Rezin sons of Nekoda, sons of Gazzam; ⁴⁹sons of Uzza, sons of Paseah, sons of Besai; ⁵⁰sons of Asnah, sons of Meunim, sons of Nephusim; ⁵¹sons of Bakbuk, sons of Hakupha, sons of Harhur; ⁵²sons of Bazluth, sons of Mehida, sons of Harsha; ⁵³sons of Barkos, sons of Sisera, sons of Tamah; ⁵⁴sons of Neziah, sons of Hatipha; ⁵⁵sons of Solomon’s servants, sons of Sotai, sons of Hasophereth, sons of Peruda; ⁵⁶sons of Jaalah, sons of Darkon, sons of Giddel; ⁵⁷sons of Shephatiah, sons of Hattil, sons of Pochereth Hazzebaim, sons of Ami; ⁵⁸all of the temple servants and sons of Solomon’s servants, three hundred ninety-two. ⁵⁹And these were the ones who came up from Tel Melah, Tel Harsha—Cherub, Addan Imner. And they could not tell their patriarchal house and their seed, whether they were of Israel. ⁶⁰The sons of Delaiah, the sons of Tobiah, the sons of Nekoda, six hundred fifty-two. ⁶¹And of the sons of the priests, the sons of Habaiah, the sons of Hakkoz, the sons of Barzillai who had taken a wife of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite and was called by his name. ⁶²These searched for their writs of lineage and they were not found, and they were excluded from the priesthood. ⁶³And the satrap said to them that they could not eat from the holiest things till a priest should stand forth with the Urim and Thummim. ⁶⁴The whole assembly together was forty-two thousand three hundred sixty, ⁶⁵besides their male slaves and slavegirls—these were seven thousand three hundred thirty-seven, and they had two hundred male and female choristers. ⁶⁶Their horses, seven hundred thirty-six, their mules, two hundred forty-five; ⁶⁷their camels, four hundred thirty-five, their donkeys, six thousand seven hundred twenty. ⁶⁸And of the patriarchal chiefs when they came to the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem, some gave a freewill offering for the house of God to set it up on its foundation. ⁶⁹According to their capacity, they gave for the treasury of the task sixty-one thousand drachmas of gold, and five thousand minnas of silver, and one hundred priestly robes. ⁷⁰And the priests and the Levites and some of the people and the choristers and the gatekeepers and the temple laborers settled in their towns and all Israel in their towns.
