CHAPTER 2

¹These are the sons of Israel, Simeon, Levi and Judah, Issachar and Zebulun, ²Dan, Joseph, and Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher. ³The sons of Judah, Er and Onan and Shelah. Three were born to him by Bath-Shua the Canaanite. And Er, Judah’s firstborn, was evil in the eyes of the LORD, and He put him to death. ⁴And Tamar his daughter-in-law bore him Perez and Zerah. All the sons of Judah were five. ⁵The sons of Perez, Hezron and Hamul. ⁶And the sons of Zerah, Zimri and Ethan and Heman and Calcol and Dara, five in all. ⁷And the sons of Carmi, Achar, who stirred up trouble against Israel when he betrayed the ban. ⁸And the son of Ethan, Azariah. ⁹And the sons of Hezron who were born to him, Jerahmeel and Ram and Chelubai. ¹⁰And Ram begot Amminadab, and Amminadab begot Nahshon, prince of the sons of Judah. ¹¹And Nahshon begot Salma, and Salma begot Boaz. ¹²And Boaz begot Obed and Obed begot Jesse. ¹³And Jesse begot his firstborn, Eliab and Abinadab the second, and Shimea the third, ¹⁴Nethaneel the fourth, Raddai the fifth, ¹⁵Ozem the sixth, David the seventh, ¹⁶and their sisters, Zeruiah and Abigail, and the sons of Zeruiah, Abishai and Joab and Asahel—three. ¹⁷And Abigail bore Amasa, and Amasa’s father was Jether the Ishmaelite. ¹⁸And Caleb son of Hezron begot by Azubah his wife and by Jerioth, and these are her sons, Jesher and Shobab and Ardon. ¹⁹And Azubah died, and Caleb took Ephrath as wife, and she bore to him Hur. ²⁰And Hur begot Uri, and Uri begot Bezalel. ²¹And afterward, Hezron came to bed with the daughter of Machir. He took her as wife, and he was sixty years old, and she bore to him Segub. ²²And Segub begot Jair, and he had twenty-three towns in the land of Gilead. ²³And Geshur and Aram took from them the villages of Havvoth-Jair, Kenath and its hamlets, sixty towns. All these were the sons of Machir, father of Gilead. ²⁴And after the death of Hezron in Caleb-Ephrathah—and Hezron’s wife was Abijah. She bore to him Ashhur father of Tekoa. ²⁵And the sons of Jerah-meel, Hezron’s firstborn, were Ram, the firstborn, and Bunah and Oren and Ozem and Ahijah. ²⁶And Jerahmeel had another wife, and her name was Atarah. She was the mother of Onam. ²⁷And the sons of Ram, Jerahmeel’s firstborn, were Maaz and Jamin and Eker. ²⁸And the sons of Onam were Shammai and Jada. And the sons of Shammai, Nadab and Abishur. ²⁹And the name of Abishur’s wife was Abihail, and she bore to him Ahban and Molid. ³⁰And the sons of Nadab, Seled and Appaim. And Seled died without sons. ³¹And the son of Appaim. And the sons of Ishi Sheshan and Ahlai. And the sons of Sheshan, Ahlai. ³²And the sons of Jada, Shammai’s brother, Jether and Jonathan. And Jether died without sons. ³³And the sons of Jonathan, Peleth and Zaza. These were the sons of Jerahmeel. ³⁴And Sheshan did not have sons but daughters, and Sheshan had an Egyptian slave named Jarha. ³⁵And Sheshan gave his daughter to Jarha his slave as wife, and she bore to him Attai. ³⁶And Attai begot Nathan, and Nathan begot Zabad. ³⁷And Zabad begot Ephlal, and Ephlal begot Obed. ³⁸And Obed begot Jehu, and Jehu begot Azariah. ³⁹And Azariah begot Helez, and Helez begot Eleasah. ⁴⁰And Eleasah begot Sisamai, and Sisamai begot Shallum. ⁴¹And Shallum begot Jekamiah, and Jekamiah begot Elishama. ⁴²And the sons of Caleb, Jerahmeel’s brother, Meshah his firstborn, who was the father of Ziph and the sons of Mesha, father of Hebron. ⁴³And the sons of Hebron, Korah and Tappuah and Rekem and Shema. ⁴⁴And Shema begot Raham father of Jorkoam, and Rekem begot Shammai. ⁴⁵And the son of Shammai was Maon, and Maon was the father of Beth-Zur. ⁴⁶And Ephrah Caleb’s concubine bore Haran and Moza and Gazez, and Haran begot Gazez. ⁴⁷And the sons of Jahdai, Regem and Jotham and Geshan and Pelet and Ephah and Shaaph. ⁴⁸Caleb’s concubine Maachah bore Sheber and Tirhanah. ⁴⁹And Shaaph father of Madmannah begot Sheva father of Machbenah and father of Gibea. And Caleb’s daughter was Achsah. ⁵⁰These were the children of Caleb. The son of Hur. Ephrathah’s firstborn was Shobal, father of Kiriath-Jearim. ⁵¹Salma, father of Bethlehem, Hareph father of Beth-Gader. ⁵²And Shobal father of Kiriath-Jearim had sons, Haroeh, half of the Manuhoth. ⁵³And the clans of Kiriath-Jearim, the Ithrite and the Puthite and the Shumathite and the Mishraite. From these the Zorathites and the Eshtaolites emerged. ⁵⁴The sons of Salma, Bethlehem, the Netophatite, Atroth-Beth-Joab, and half the Manahethite, the Zorite. ⁵⁵And the clans of the scribes that dwelled in Jabez, the Tirathites, the Shimeathites, the Suchathites. They were the Kenites who came from Hammath, father of the house of Rechab.
