2 Thessalonians 3:16–18

16 3:16Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.

17 3:17I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand. This is the sign of genuineness in every letter of mine; it is the way I write. 18 3:18The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

Section Overview

In these closing words, it is again evident that Paul has been the central author among his colleagues. He invokes peace on the congregation, assures them of his authorship of the letter, and concludes with his regular greeting of grace.

Section Outline
  1. V. Benediction and Epistolary Closing (3:16–18)
    1. A. Benediction (3:16)
    2. B. Paul’s Signed Greeting (3:17)
    3. C. Invocation of Grace (3:18)
Response

Gospel ministers do well to imitate Paul’s habit of invoking grace and peace on the people of God; thus church services often conclude with a benediction. However, we can all earnestly pray for peace and grace to be granted to one another. Moreover, in this epistle we are wondrously reminded that Jesus is present among us, since believers are in union with Christ.
